Fashioning “Japaneseness”: Hanae Mori’s American Dream

In the exhibition catalogue for Hanae Mori Vital Type: The 100th Anniversary of Birth organized by the Iwami Art Museum and the National Art Center, Tokyo, I reassessed the significance of Hanae Mori’s prolific years in the US fashion industry during the 1960s and 70s.

In an effort to encourage the research of Japanese fashion history, I partnered with the Costume Society of America to give a lecture on archival resources accessible through Japanese museums, libraries, and corporate archives.
